   TOM MARTIN DISCOVERS
          ARTISTIC TALENT!

Thank you for visiting my personal website!

For me, it was the quite the shock and suprise to hear what others were saying about my first carvings.

What I thought was a simple hobby, pass-time, an escape, now my family and close friends are encouraging me to move forward on a more serious level.  After hearing very positive feedback from a visit of one of Newfoundland's Fine Inuit Art Appraisers, I now understand and feel some validation that this is not just a simple hobby but a unique gift.

With the help from my brother Paul in creating this site, he and other family members felt a strong need to share this with all who know me.

In my humble opinion, I did not realize these carvings would be of any interest to many at all.  I am now realizing that I should continue the stories of my grandmother, in my style - FINE INUIT ART CARVINGS!

I also feel it's of major importance that my own kids
understand my heritage and hear some of the many interesting stories of survival my late grandmother, whom they would have adored so much, Mary Ann Mitsuk shared with us.  It was "Grandma's", life experiences shared first-hand with me, Barb, Bon, Gary and Paul that have to continue to be told.  I guess my way of bringing back my heritage in my grandmother's words so Ash and Andrew could understand is in these carvings.

Paul Martin, Toronto,
When I first saw the email picture of the carving Tom  called "Grandma", I was in my office at work in Toronto.  The email attachment opened and I shouted "WHAT!, Tom made that!".  I sat staring at the picture in disbelief for about 10 minutes and I became very emotional.  I then remember telling my sister, "I can never remember Tom having any interest in this kind of stuff;  when you were telling me he carved something, I did not realize it was something like this, this just happened overnight"!

I hope you enjoy my first carvings and please continue to re-visit for new pictures.   Don't forget, leave a note on the guestbook page.

Thank you,
Tom
